How to market your app with print

Sub- Title:
With the constant back and forth shown in the news about the print industry failing, it’s easy to forget about this traditional medium when planning an app launch, but there are numerous print variations that can lead to a successful hotel mobile app lau

Check-in stuffer - Check-in stuffers are very effective marketing tools because your guest will immediately see them upon check in.

Retractable Banner - You can put it anywhere: in the lobby, in the conference center, or even take it to a tradeshow. The flexibility of a retractable banner makes it a smart choice financially.

Lobby Poster- If you choose to invest in a retractable banner you can use it in your lobby or design a poster especially for your lobby. If you choose a custom lobby poster including some kind of welcome would be a great idea in addition to information about your app. You can also include a QR code that will take your guests directly to the app from your poster.

Room Key Card - This option requires a little more money and effort, but if your key cards are due for upgrading, why not include a QR code right on the room key? Check out this great example from Marriott.

Print Ad- These can be run in local magazines and newspapers, in Chamber Newsletters, or on a national scale if you have the resources. An ad for your app will make the end user feel less like your pushing your property on them and more like you are trying to help them.

Email Marketing- while not technically print, the same process as a print ad goes into creating email marketing materials.

In-Room Tent Card - If placed in the right area, these can be hard to miss! Since these are bigger than the check-in stuffer you can provide similar information but more in depth.

Press Release- A press release can be submitted to newspapers, turned into a blog post, used on Facebook and Twitter. The amount of time that goes into writing a press release is well worth it since you can use it in so many different places.

Postcard- You can use the front of the card to show a great shot of your property and then use the small space on the back to talk about the app and provide a QR code to download it. Postcards seem more personal to their recipients than traditional direct mail pieces.

Brochure- Many local business’ have racks with other local attractions brochures on them, if you are creating other print collateral anyway most of the copy is written and the pictures chosen. Why not try and have other business’ advertise your app for you? If your app includes a scene section it would be smart to approach the business’ who are featured in the app about keeping your brochure in their store.
